And as for the whole hentai discussion thing, a lot of artists started out doing doujinshi and hentai. It's more business than anything else, I think. Creating a hentai manga takes a lot less skill in terms of plot and stuff, and it has a universal appeal (sex o.o) so it's chosen by a lot of starting manga-ka as their area of work.

Which brings us to the term 'sex sells'. Without it we would not have had, say, Elvis or Marilyn Monroe. On the other hand, we also wouldn't have had Britney Spears, it can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it.

Somethings you should keep in mind...
First of all; Pornography, animated or otherwise, is for adults, it's a form of "adult entertainment".
Adults enjoy sex.
Adults have a right to enjoy sex and to watch "adult entertainment."
Sometimes people think that because it's animated, it's for kids and that is why doujin have such a bad rep.

Hentai means perverted, and tends to imply more extreme forms of sex that most people would find highly offensive. I happen to agree on this. I feel that certain doujin are too degrading and/or violent to the characters. On the other hand, sometimes it's nice to see your favorite characters having nice happy healthy sex.
