I'm curious about what series or movies (not neccesarily anime) is similar to Alien 9. Currently I'm watching Narutaru and I can see why some people have compared Alien 9 to it. It has a similar 'don't judge a book by its cover' thing and characters that are relatively young, including the main character who is only 12 year old. The opening though is much more deceiving (you don't expect a series that open with an upbeat ska song to be dark, do you?). In my opinion, other series/movies that are similar to Alien 9 are Gunslinger Girl (similar use of young girls in a normally adult situation), and Suicide Circle (the juxtaposing of cute elements with disturbing scenes). The only one I can think of at the top of my head is the TV show "House." It looks like it could be a lighthearted show thanks to House's grumpiness and arrogance at first, but from what I've seen of it, it can suddenly turn from that into the same intense drama as seen in shows like "Law and Order: SVU." I need to watch more of it to be completely sure, though. |

Can't think of any right now myself but I remembered AnimeNFO.com has an option for users to recommend similar shows for an anime. Here's the list for Alien Nine, some I know, some I don't. I can't really think of an anime similar to Alien 9. That's why I like it so much... cause it's so different! I won't be watching the anime and saying to myself "Hey, that's just like in that other anime 'name'." |

Alien 9 really is unique, but it does share some elements with other series. If I had to compare, I'd pick NaruTaru. From the intro of NaruTaru, you'd expect it to be cutesy, fun, and carefree; then you find out it's more along the lines of being twisted and disturbing. I believe Alien 9 is similar to NaruTaru along those lines. |

Gunslinger Girl, like you said Deepdeck, can be somewhat similar to Alien9. It's about girls being "slaves to the system", disturbing and full of violence, the great thing about Gunslinger Girl is that you get a chance to feel the emotions of the girls and feel their pain, if you're emotional enough. P.S. I'm an Alien Catcher Hunter... Save all aliens! Wether cute or brutally psychotic, they still have the right to live! Death to Alien Hunters! |
